Egg rolls, wonton soup, fried rice and so much more — Champaign-Urbana has a menu of literally everything when it comes to Chinese food options
Whether you’re a University of Illinois student looking for a quick bite between classes or a longtime local on the hunt for hidden gems, Chinese food has carved out a special place in the hearts (and stomachs) of Champaign-Urbana residents. We have a diverse menu of offerings, including Cantonese, Sichuan and Hunan dishes, among many other regional cuisines.
Our community is quite passionate about Chinese food, and that is reflected in the list below.
As with all of our “favorite food” lists, we focus on locally owned restaurants around Champaign-Urbana and beyond.

China Garden, Urbana: Adjacent to Schnucks in Urbana, you can find a good selection of good food at great prices.
China King, Champaign: Find an extensive menu at this South Neil Street location. Convenient for carry-out!
Chopstix, Champaign: If you are craving Chinese food at 2 a.m., then this might be your best option for quick carry-out. You’ll have to drive right on to Green Street to pick up, but maybe you’ll get lucky and get Grubhub to bring it right to you!
Dim Sum House, Champaign: We were pumped when an authentic Dim Sum restaurant came to Campustown (located right on Green Street). We absolutely loved the dumplings and recommend you make the trip based off of those alone. Of course, many other menu items are available, too, many of which we think kids will love. The “small bite” appeal of dim sum is enticing to kids and teens to try new things.

Golden Harbor, Champaign: You’ve likely driven past this restaurant a thousand times or more. Try the following dishes, according to our team and readers: salt & pepper chicken, Cantonese sausage fried rice, pork belly buns, garlic green beans, anything double pork, dry 7 spices chicken. “You will order too much food, and you will be happy about it.” We hear they are very allergy-friendly, too — a tough characteristic to find at restaurants that use the stir-fry method to do most of their cooking.
Golden Wok, Champaign: A popular take-out location in Campustown. Two Chinese food staples, fried rice and beef and broccoli, are stand-out dishes here.
Green Jade, Champaign: Located in the same strip mall as Sun Singer, Green Jade is another long-time Chinese food staple in town. The angle hair (rice) noodles are unique to this restaurant.
I Wok, Savoy: A great take-out option in Savoy and popular with our Southwest Champaign readers. Try the shrimp with mixed veggies.
Ming Garden, Champaign: A carry-out only option that proves to be delicious and tasty.
Peking Garden, Champaign: One of our favorite spots for Chinese in Champaign-Urbana. Dining in is certainly an option, as well as delivery or carry out. They have delicious food and wonderful customer service at this family owned and operated restaurant of more than 20 years in Champaign. Our kids love the variety of the Bao Bao platter, and we find all of their dishes to be fantastic. Lunch specials are a great deal!

Rainbow Garden, Champaign: Families like the crab rangoon here, and the wonton soup is quite good, too. Very friendly and great service.

Super Wok, Champaign: Try the chicken teriyaki and egg rolls here. It is always super fast and delicious! Convenient location in the Old Farm Shops.
