Champaign-Urbana’s Favorite Sushi

Tantalize your taste buds with the best sushi in Champaign-Urbana

Did you know that the term sushi originally just referred to the rice inside the ever popular “sushi rolls?” This traditional Japanese favorite has become a staple to many who call Champaign-Urbana home and it is a popular question received at Chambanamoms. So, where can you go to get great sushi in Champaign-Urbana?

Ko fusion mango sushi

While Sam’s Club, Meijer, and Schnucks all receive honorable mentions for their extensive sushi selections, we want to focus on locally owned restaurants and businesses in Champaign-Urbana. Establishments will be listed in alphabetical order.

One more helpful tip: make sure to ask for soy, ginger, and wasabi when placing an order to take home.

Champaign-Urbana’s Favorite Spots for Sushi

Harvest Market sushi

Harvest Market, Champaign: Harvest Market makes its sushi fresh near the deli. We are impressed with the quality AND the prices. Harvest Market’s dine-in atmosphere makes this a quick grab-and-go sushi option a great addition to this list. Do not underestimate Harvest Market sushi!

Ko Fusion Champaign

KoFusion, Champaign: Mentioned time and time (and time) again, C-U couples and families find their way to KoFusion for great sushi downtown and special celebrations. Some favorites: Flaming Phoenix, Big Roll, Crunch, Coconut Mango, and Firecracker. This might just be the most popular place to grab sushi in all of Chambana.

Kung Fu Tea

Kung Fu Tea, Champaign: Kung Fu Tea has a build-your-own sushi burrito (like a fat roll) and poke bowl (deconstructed sushi roll in a bowl). Bonus: get your boba there, too!

Oishi Asian Cuisine, Champaign: Oishi has a huge menu and is great if someone in your party doesn’t like sushi (it has other options). The lunch special is a good deal! Try Jimmy’s Sexy Roll if you’d like something different.

Sakanaya, Champaign: A C-U staple for more than ten years now, you can find it on Green Street in the heart of Campustown. This is one we haven’t personally tried yet, but we hear chambanamoms readers often bring up in conversation, so we’ve added it. to the list.

Sakura, Urbana: Sakura dishes up more excellent Japanese food. There are more options than sushi, if that is what someone in your party is looking for. We like the atmosphere there, too.

Sushi Kame

Sushi Kame, Champaign: Sushi Kame makes great sushi to-go with a convenient parking lot right outside the restaurant — key when you’re heading into campus. You get some freebies with your order as an added bonus.

Sushi Man

Sushi Man, Champaign: With two locations, one on campus and one next to Target, Sushi Man has you covered. Best known for its all-you-can-eat sushi deal (only at the Prospect Ave. location), you get 90 minutes to eat as much sushi as you possibly can. Don’t over-order though; you’ll be charged for each piece you don’t eat. Your sushi might be delivered by a robot, too!

Sushi Siam

Sushi Siam, Champaign: Great sushi and poke bowls to be found at this Champaign gem. This may very well be a “best kept secret” when it comes to sushi in Champaign-Urbana. The creativity and flavors are really something, and we think you’ll enjoy this place, no matter what kind of sushi you order. Bonus: they have an extensive Thai menu, too!

Another sushi-related option to note

Cheese and Crackers, Champaign: Buy your own sushi grade fish and make sashimi style sushi at home.
