When it comes to chicken wings, we know that in true midwest fashion, Champaign-Urbana has quite the list. There is no “right answer” when it comes to how wings are prepared or served.

As with all of our “favorite food” lists, we focus on locally owned restaurants around Champaign-Urbana and beyond. (This list is in alphabetical order.)

Big Grove Tavern, Champaign: Big Grove offers buttermilk-braised wings tossed in buffalo or Korean BBQ sauce served with blue cheese or ranch dressing. They are perfect for an appetizer or an entire dinner.

Billy Barooz, Champaign: A couple different buffalo options, depending on your heat preferences, and BBQ or jerk styles available, too.

Black Dog Smoke & Ale House, Champaign: Try Black Dog’s Smoked Chicken Wings served with celery and smoked bleu cheese dressing. In Black Dog fashion, we can count on deliciousness straight out of the smoker with these wings.

Boomerangs Bar and Grill, Urbana: Head to Boomerangs’ for wings on Wednesday nights. They have breaded stingers or naked wings in 12 different flavors.

Bunny’s Tavern, Urbana: Bunny’s has good boneless wings. Visit on Tuesday night for smoked wings.

C&C Kitchen, food truck: Try C&C Kitchen’s lakeside hot cheddar wings. If you like some heat on your wings, try their dragon blast wings.

Esquire Lounge, Champaign: Have them as an appetizer to share with someone or just a meal for yourself.

Farren’s at the Inman, Champaign: Try ordering them extra crispy with the housemade blue cheese dressing. They are fabulous!

Hickory River Smokehouse, Urbana: A side order of wings makes a great addition to any Hickory River order. Naked wings are good, too (and a hit with the kids).

Jupiter’s at the Crossing, Champaign: The bourbon sriracha sauce is a unique find on the wings menu here. Jupiter’s offers both buffalo style wings with your choice of sauce as well as boneless wings.

Masjita Grill, Urbana: This Korean BBQ establishment had delicious wings. Not to mention a number of other Korean favorite dishes!

Old Orchard Lanes & Links, Savoy: Pizza and wings pair perfectly while you’re out with the fam for bowling. Their boneless wings with Asian chili sauce knock it out of the park.

Pia’s, Champaign: When you want wings from a casual bar, you head to Pia’s.

Po’Boys, Urbana: Po’Boys has some awesome smoked wings. They come with your choice of buffalo, teriyaki, BBQ, sesame ginger, or plain.

San Maru, Champaign: Their breaded wings are huge and drizzled with honey and toasted almonds. They’re the perfect sweet appetizer for their many delicious entrees.

Smoky’s House BBQ, Savoy: Smoky’s House BBQ has some amazing smoked wings! Their signature wings come with your choice of Memphis Sweet, Mostly Mustard, Little Heat, Root N’ Que, Chipotle Mango, Buffalo, Perfectly Hot, Simply Sweet (Gluten Free) sauce.

Tasty Wings and Sandwiches, Champaign: Featuring bone-in or boneless wings in orders of eight to 100 pieces, their wings come with your choice of mild, hot, extra hot, honey barbecue, garlic parmesan, teriyaki sauce, or lemon pepper.

Wingstop, Champaign: This chain features all things wings. You can get anything you want here!

Wood N’ Hog, Champaign: Try their jerk chicken wings. Their wings are hand-breaded and lightly fried. They come with fries and white bread.
