Whether you’ve had a rough week at work or home, are looking to celebrate, or just looking for a night out on the town, we’ve compiled a listing of some of the best desserts Champaign-Urbana has to offer. Going out for dessert also makes for a budget-friendly date night compared to heading out for a whole meal.

As with all of our “favorite food” lists, we focus on locally owned restaurants around Champaign-Urbana and beyond. (This list is in alphabetical order.) We’ve separated this list into desserts you can order at a restaurant and desserts you can swing by and pick up (or order ahead) at a bakery.

Desserts you can order at a restaurant

Hamilton Walker’s, Champaign: Every single dessert on the Hamilton Walker’s menu is worth trying sometime. The s’more pie and key lime cheesecake are pictured above.

Ko Fusion, Champaign: Ko Fusion’s chocolate cake is layered chocolate mousse, flourless chocolate cake, and fudge. We highly recommend it.

Punch! Bar & Lounge, Champaign: Punch! regularly rotates out its menu, but we love their sweet culinary creations. Try the tart or flourless cake.

Silvercreek, Urbana: Their Chocolate Solution cake has traditional dark chocolate cake, rich chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, whipped cream, and chocolate curls. It is out of this world.

Sun Singer Restaurant, Champaign: The chocolate mousse at Sun Singer demands to be eaten slowly so you can savor every single bit of chocolate.

Desserts you can pick up at a local bakery

Art Mart, Champaign: The oatmeal fudgie and their cookie dough covered brownies are two favorites. Perfect for those days when you need a little more chocolate in your life.

Bake Lab, Urbana: The pastry chef at Bake Lab makes some of the most unique desserts we’ve ever seen or tasted. Try the croissants and fruit tarts.

Berries and Flour: Try their Earl-Grey raspberry cake! We are particularly curious about their cake of the month subscription. Looking for a gift for that certain someone who is hard to buy for? A cake of the month club just might fit the bill. There is no storefront. Goods are by online or phone order, or find them regularly at summer farmers markets and holidays markets.

Common Ground Food Co-Op, Urbana: Located inside Lincoln Square Mall, one reader states that Comon Ground’s carrot cake is their most favorite dessert.

Hopscotch Bakery + Market, Champaign: The hardest decision now its knowing whether to visit them in their original location or inside The Literary, but all of their desserts are delicious. Big love given to their pumpkin cookies, cinnamon rolls, and salted caramel brownies.

Pekara Bakery and Bistro, Champaign: Bailey’s chocolate cake and a cup of coffee? Who says you can’t eat cake for breakfast?

Rick’s Bakery, Urbana: Not really unique but so delicious, Rick’s tres leches is top notch, We also hear Rick’s princess cakes (sponge cake with layers of custard and raspberry jam covered by layer of marzipan) are delicious and tasty, too.

Suzu’s Bakery, Champaign: The cream puffs are a favorite choice. Matcha, vanilla and chocolate – doesn’t matter.
