Cookie Trail Around Champaign-Urbana

January 13, 2021 By From The Editors

Whether you prefer oatmeal, chocolate chip, monster, or sugar, we’ve got recommendations for some of Champaign-Urbana’s finest cookies

Whether you prefer a plain cookie or one with the kitchen sink thrown in, Champaign-Urbana is sure to have something to satisfy your tastebuds. We asked our readers to tell us their favorite bakeries to support and your recommendations have us wanting to hop in the car and take on this trail right now.

As one reader told us, “I love these (food trails). Never a consensus. One of the best things about our area: plenty of ‘best of’ everything.” We couldn’t agree more.

We received a few mentions for Subway, Barnes and Noble, and Potbelly, but as always with our food trail posts, we focus on small businesses in our community.

Art Mart, Champaign: “Art Mart has the best milk chocolate chunk cookies.” “She took the words right out of my mouth!” “Art Mart pumpkin cookies.” “Art mart monster cookies, cherry sugar cookies, and lemon cookies. (I’ll stop there).”

Bevier Cafe, Urbana: “Oh, Bevier Cafe, definitely!”

Brittany’s Sweet Spot: “Hands down!” “I was most recently introduced to Brittany’s Sweet Spot cookies at the Champaign Farmers Market, and those were amazingly delicious!”

Central Illinois Bakehouse, area farmers markets and Market Wagon: “Make sure to try the pistachio shortbread cookies!”

Common Ground Food Co-Operative, Urbana: “Chocolate chip from Common Ground!” “Seconding Common Ground!”

DP Dough, Champaign: “Their chocolate chip cookies are delicious!”

Harvest Market, Champaign: “Harvest Market has amazing chocolate chip cookies!” “Their chocolate chunks (and oatmeal raisin) are the best in town!”

Hopscotch Bakery + Market, Champaign: “We love the seasonal cookies at Hopscotch. This summer they had an amazing chocolate chip with caraway.” “Their macarons are delicious!”

Insomnia Cookies, Urbana: “Insomnia Cookies makes a bad day better! Their warm cookies filled with your choice of icing or ice cream are our family’s go-to treat. We just wish that their delivery range was wider and delivered to us!”

Krannert Center for the Performing Arts’ Intermezzo Cafe, Urbana: “I love their cookies!” Important to note: Covid-compliant faculty, staff, and students can still go in the building to purchase them.

Lucky Moon Pies and More, Mahomet: “Their frosted pumpkin cookies are divine!”

Pekara Bakery & Bistro, Champaign: “Pekara has really tasty chocolate chip cookies!”

Pies by Inge, Monticello: “We love their iced sugar cookies and iced lemon cookies!”

RegCakes, Pesotum: “You have to try their persimmon cookies. Delicious and gluten free!”

Rick’s Bakery, Urbana: “Oh, Rick’s frosted sugar cookies…they are the best.”

The Bread Company, Urbana: “All of the fresh baked cookies at The Bread Company are delicious!”

The Cake Artist’s Studio, Champaign: “Their short breads are HEAVEN!”

The New Sweet Indulgence, Champaign: “I give them a big thumbs up.” “I love their cookie dough sandwich or sunflower chocolate chip shortbread cookies.” “Can’t go wrong with their decorated sugar cookies. Yum!”
