Are you looking for another great option for brunch in the Champaign-Urbana community? Our Sunday-after-church-routine often looks the same. We try to figure out a restaurant that serves breakfast food plus has a short wait. This past weekend we tried Minneci’s at the Crossing and were pleasantly surprised at the yummy options they offered for brunch.
Minneci’s just recently started serving brunch. The past few months they have focused on a buffet style brunch that allows customers to try a little bit of everything. This past weekend they started something new- plated meals. We were able to try their menu and found that there were savory options with a special Minneci’s flare. Rob Meister, owner, said that he wanted to offer a simple, affordable plated breakfast/brunch for the community. When Cabo’s went out of business (was located at the Crossing too) customers were missing another breakfast spot in Southwest Champaign. Rob took on the task of creating a brunch menu which he never had tried before. He is unsure of what his customers will like more- a buffet or plated brunch. He said he is going to ‘ask’ his social media following and take a vote! Here’s our review on the menu:
Pros: Coffee was great- this is very important for any restaurant serving breakfast food (and for parents with small children). The menu had a range of typical breakfast foods- eggs, pancakes, french toast, waffles etc. However, there were some nice Italian options- such as an Italian Frittata and italian spiced potatoes. My son, the picky eater, ate his entire plate which was a win! The pricing was spot on and very affordable for the food quality that we were served. I even noticed mimosas on the menu- I filed that away for a future girlfriend’s brunch.
Cons: We were the guinea pigs of the plated meals. The wait for our food was a little longer than I wanted, however, knowing we were some of the first customers to try this service- I know that they will work this out in the coming weeks. Surprisingly, my children didn’t complain (children menus and crayons are always a staple at Minneci’s), so I know we will be back!
Overall, we had a delightful brunch! Minneci’s offers a clean, tasty, family friendly venue for your next brunch or breakfast. Saturday hours are 11am-2pm & Sunday hours are 10am-2pm. Check out their Facebook Page to see if Rob decides to keep the plated menu or go back to the buffet style.
