Where To Find Locally Raised Meat in the Champaign-Urbana Area

There’s no shortage of local meat in Champaign-Urbana — and local farmers need us more than ever.

Looking for local meat in the Champaign-Urbana area? The East Central Illinois area has a number of local farmers that sell their meat products directly to customers. In addition, there are a number of locally owned stores that sell local meats. Below we’ve put together a resource to help you find locally raised meat in and around Champaign-Urbana. Allen’s Farm Quality Meats 

Located in Homer, Allen’s Farm Quality Meats sells what it raise including beef, chicken and pork. Has contactless pickup; call and place an order. 217-896-2532 

Arends Farms Meats & Butcher Shop
Located in Ivesdale (southwest part of Champaign County), this is a family owned and operated store with meats directly from its farm and sells some other products. Sells pork and beef, including bulk purchases (quarter or half a cow for $3.29 lb, includes processing). Generally open M-F. Call 217) 564-2266. 

Avery Farms
Avery Farms is located outside of Penfield and offers beef that is grass­fed, antibiotic ­free, and hormone­ free.  A variety of produce is also available and sold at Urbana’s Market at the Square and the Champaign Farmers’ Market. Bane Family Meats 
Bane Family Meats is a family owned and operated farm located just outside of Sidney. They offer meat that is pasture raised and free from GMOs, antibiotics, and chemicals. They produce beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey, and eggs. Bane offers free local delivery and a CSA. Contact them here. 

Miller Brothers Farm
Miller Brothers Farm is a family owned and operated farm located in Oakland, in central Illinois. For four generations they have been raising corn, soybeans, oats, wheat, hay and Angus cattle. They implement sustainable farming methods — no-till, cover crops, crop rotation — throughout their operation, and provide their customers with beef that is free of antibiotics, steroids, artificial hormones, dyes and preservatives. Moore Family Farm
Moore Family Farm is found near Watseka and is owned and operated by the family using sustainable farming practices. Grass fed beef and lamb, pasture raised pork and chicken, and free range eggs are produced, in addition to a variety of vegetables. Moore Family Farm’s products are available in a variety of locations, including Urbana’s Market at the Square, Common Ground Food Co-­op, and can be purchased from the farm by appointment. Nunnery Farms
Nunnery Farms, situated in rural Clinton, is a small, family ­run farm that specializes in Berkshire pork, chickens, and eggs by the dozen. Animals are free ­range and raised without antibiotics, hormones, or animal by-­products. Meat and eggs are sold on the farm or through deliveries to Champaign-­Urbana. Deliveries are also done to Bloomington and Chicago. Contact information: nunneryfarms@gmail.com.

Ruhter Bison
This is a family farm in Douglas County not far from Tuscola which exclusively sells bison (aka buffalo) meat. Typically can be found at local farmers markets. “We want to wish everyone good health and safety. Our products still are available online or with a phone call (217) 778-9858.”

Triple S Farms
Triple S Farms is an organic farm in Stewardson that raises cattle, hogs, chickens and turkeys on pasture. We’ve written about its Buying Club program in the past, and you can also find Triple S at Urbana’s Market at the Square, Common Ground Food Co­op, and Harvest Market. Contact Triple S Farms online.

University of Illinois Meat Sales Room. This popular foodie hangout sells locally raised meats as well as eggs. Typically, days and hours of service are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Currently the meat sales room is taking online orders, with varying items in stock for limited curbside pickup slots. Champaign-Urbana Area Stores Carrying Local Meats

These stores carry a variety of local products, including meats. They are a good bet if you need more items than just meat or you can’t make it to local farms when they are open for sales.

Old Time Meat and Deli, Champaign
A “traditional” butcher shop that sources chicken and other meats from local farms including Amish farmers. More info oldtimemeatanddeli.com

Common Ground Food Co-Op, Urbana
Products from local farmers and producers such as Triple S Farms, Kilgus Farmstead, Moore Family Farm, Piemonte Sausages, and Central Lean. Meat case has a wide selection of poultry, beef, pork, and fish. (lamb and bison are available seasonally) All are antibiotic-free and humanely raised meat. www.commonground.coop

Harvest Market, Champaign
This full-service grocery store prides itself on selling local meats when possible, and other local foods as well. We know that Triple S Farms is one of its suppliers.
