So what are the top 5 things to do at Allerton Park (located just outside of Monticello)? Hiking, exploring, picnicking are just a few, but those are the obvious ones. We have a few more to add:
.) Special events – From summer camps to holiday programming at Christmastime, you’ll never know what you might find for your family to do at Allerton Park.
.) Concerts – Bring the kids out to the Park for a family-friendly night of great music, food, and atmosphere! Concerts happen all summer long; check our calendar for info.
.) Exploring– Hike the 14+ miles of trails at Allerton, and along the way, your kids will see Allerton as only a child can. They can discover the Lost Garden and pose like one of the lost statues, let their imaginations run wild as they approach the Centaur statue in the middle of the woods, and be inspired walking through the elegant formal gardens. Young and old will get lost in the mystery of Allerton Park!
.) Free Play in Nature – Allerton offers countless opportunities for children to relax and be themselves in nature. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, unstructured play is essential to development as it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. Not only is play in nature healthy, but it creates lifelong memories, and restores balance in an unbalanced society.
.) Picnicking – Bring a basket, blanket, and Frisbee and spend the day in the meadow or one of Allerton’s beautiful formal gardens. We have picnic tables and grills available that site alongside open areas that are perfect for families to gather and enjoy a crisp fall day.
