We did a fun thing yesterday and wanted to pass along the tip to other Chambana moms — we went strawberry picking at Mulberry Lane Farm in Loda, Ill.
The owner is very nice, and mentioned that they were the only certified organic strawberry farm in Illinois. They have nice, well-kept rows, although they are very close together, and the picking is at its peak this week, she said. Plus, the strawberries are half-priced this week as well ($1.49 per pound)!
She’s OK with kids, and even took mine and some younger kids from other families on a small tour of the animals, including chicks, hens, pigeons, and a cow. She does have minimum picking requirements and rules, so be sure to read the website carefully, including the part about no restrooms available there.
I was there about an hour and 15 minutes and, with help from my two boys, I was able to get 14 pounds. She also has other produce, plus eggs, lamb and beef. The place is easy to find, and is about a 40 minute drive from CU. Loda has a nice city park — again, with no restrooms, but I discovered on the way out that it’s right behind their library, which probably did have a bathroom.
It was a nice outing, and I’d recommend going this week if you want or need strawberries. As for me, I’ll be baking a lot of pies and making a lot of jam!

Drill down through their website then form your opinion.
Carole, I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
I imagine it’s the part about beating your strong willed children with wooden dowel rods that she finds distasteful.
