Find dozens of brightly painted eggs this spring
Just as the weather begins to warm, we’ve got a great reason to head outside to our favorite county forest preserves to go on an extra special “hunt” with our kids. The Champaign County Forest Preserve has set its eggs — a.k.a., large rocks — throughout its locations and you can make it a goal to find as many as you can this spring! (Just don’t try to put them in a basket.)

According to the Champaign County Forest Preserve District’s website — where you can download the checklist and images of the eggs at each preserve — you can find eggs around the following places:
- Lake of the Woods, just head to the Botanical Gardens if you want find a quick few
- River Bend Forest Preserve
- Sangamon River Forest Preserve (note that this preserve is located near Fisher, not to be confused with the Piatt County property along the Sangamon River)
- Middle Fork Forest Preserve, the state’s first International Dark Sky Park
- Homer Lake
Wear your nature-friendly clothes so that you can freely explore the forest preserves while you’re visiting and enjoy your time outdoors being active.
