Our list of when Champaign-Urbana area pools change their hours and close for the season
It’s that time of year, friends. Yellow buses will be filling the streets, the sun will be setting earlier and the college students will come flooding back to town.
That also means that Champaign-Urbana area pools will be changing hours as their workforce heads back to school, too. Here’s what that means for you at Champaign-Urbana area pools.
Sholem Aquatic Center, Champaign
When: The baby pool will close after 3 p.m. on Aug. 16 and re-open for Aug. 21’s open swim. Starting Aug. 19, Sholem will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only through Labor Day (including Monday 9/6/21). Hours are 1-6 p.m.
How much: Kids under 4 are still free; same pricing as usual for everyone.
What to Know: Once school is back in session, limited staff availability may cause the facility to close some attractions, such as the lazy river or slides. To avoid kid disappointment, call ahead (217-398-2581).
Anything else? Some years, Sholem hosts a Labor Day weekend half-price admission swim and sale event. We will keep you posted if we hear anything about this! Check the website for more info on end-of-season updates.

Stephens Family YMCA, Champaign
When: The Y annually closes its pools for cleaning toward the end of each summer. For 2021 their pools will be closed from August 14-23.
Why: From their website: “During this time, we deep clean, drain the pools, perform maintenance on our pool system, and necessary deck repairs, to keep your Y in exceptional shape. This year we have a lot to do since we did not drain our pools in 2020… We appreciate your understanding if this [closure] needs to be extended. Updates will be posted on our website and app.”
