Stores that Offer Grocery Delivery or Curbside Pickup in Champaign-Urbana and Beyond
When you can’t leave the house, or your car: Champaign-Urbana grocery store options for delivery or curbside pickup
Let’s face it….kids in school, kids in sports, kids in extracurricular activities, work…..some days it seems like there are barely enough waking hours to get everything done. Many area grocery stores offer item pickup or even delivery to your doorstep. Pre-order your groceries ahead of time and pick them up after work, or opt for a delivery option to better meet your family’s needs.

Here are just a few of the convenient grocery shopping options available in our community.
Aldi
At this time, Aldi does offer curbside pickup. They have partnered with a third-party delivery service—Instacart. Instacart organizes shoppers to deliver groceries via their app or their website. Their express delivery option runs families an annual fee of $99. This includes unlimited delivery for orders of $35 or more. You may also pay on an as needed basis for $3.99 per delivery. Instacart additionally delivers groceries in the Champaign-Urbana area from CVS, Binny’s, Schnucks, and Gordon Food Service.
Amazon
Amazon offers same-day pickup for free at the Illini Union Bookstore (809 S. Wright St., Champaign). Amazon Prime delivers many items from their site in two days—even Sundays. This is a membership-based service with an annual fee of $119 or $12.99 per month. Students pay just a $59 annual fee for membership after their initial six-month free trial period ends. Amazon Pantry allows for consumers to purchase boxed snacks, non-perishable pantry items, and household products for an additional $4.99 membership fee per month on top of their Prime membership fee.
Harvest Market and County Market
Harvest Market and County Market both use an online shopping partner, Rosie. With a minimum purchase of $30 or more, they offer curbside pickup for $3.99 or at home delivery of your groceries, as long as the destination is within 10 miles of the store. At-home delivery is available for a fee of $4.99 for deliveries within a 5 mile radius of the store. Each mile thereafter up to the 10 mile cutoff will add $1.00 to your delivery fee. Add your items to your cart on their website, checkout and enjoy your relaxation. Handy tip…Harvest Market will deliver wine or other adult beverages to your car or home upon checking valid identification of an adult over the age of 21.
Meijer
Meijer offers pickup services for $4.95. Add your items to your cart on their website, checkout and pick up at your desired location. Delivery is available for $9.95 per order. There is no markup on their items and all sales available in store are also available for customers taking advantage of Meijer Pickup (formerly known as Meijer Curbside).
Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club offers click and pull pickup for free (with a membership plan). Add items to your cart on their app, checkout and pick up at your desired location. Associates tell us that you can pull into the loading zone, check in at customer service, and the order will be brought to your car. Pre-pay and post-pay options are available from their website.
Schnucks
Curbside pickup has just been added at Champaign-Urbana-Savoy Schnucks locations. Once a customer places a Curbside Pickup order, the customer will receive a text message with instructions on where to park at the store and what phone number to call upon arrival. Once the customer calls the number, a Schnucks employee will deliver the order directly to the customer’s vehicle. Instacart processing fees are waived for Schnucks Delivers Express members and are $1.99 for nonmembers for orders of $35 or more. Orders of $10 – $34.99 have a $3.99 processing fee. There is a $10 minimum purchase for all Curbside Pickup orders. Groceries are offered by delivery to homes through Instacart, as described above.
Target
Target offers in-store pickup and drive-up services for free. Add items to your cart on their website or app, checkout and pickup. Let them know that you are on your way to the store, park in their designated drive-up parking spots, and they will use location services on your cell phone to know when you are there. Ever hear those honking horns on employee’s walkie talkies when shopping in-store? That’s someone pulling up outside ready to get their order.
Target recently purchased Shipt which features home delivery in an hour or so. Depending on available drivers, Shipt offers delivery 24-7. An annual membership fee of $99 applies for unlimited deliveries of orders over $35. Orders under $35 will incur a $7 delivery fee. Order directly from the Shipt app to bring up items from past orders, current sales, and special requests. Handy tip…find someone currently using Shipt and have them “refer” you. It will save you $50 on a yearly membership. Shipt will also deliver groceries from Meijer and CVS.
Walmart
Walmart offers curbside pickup for free with a $30 or more order. Add items to your cart on their app or website, checkout, reserve a time slot, and employees will bring the items right to your car. (And many of our readers compliment their service!) Our Champaign-Urbana-Savoy Walmart locations have just recently begun offering same-day home delivery in a reserved time slot. Delivery also requires a $30 minimum order; you either pay a fixed member rate for an unlimited number of delivered orders, or you pay per delivery ($7.95-$9.95, depending on how soon you want your order).
Don’t forget about other food delivery conveniences!
- Urbana-based Piato’s Food Nanny delivers organic meals to your door. This is a weekly order food delivery service featuring many local ingredients.
- Schwan’s frozen foods are available by truck delivery or drop off.
- CVS recently initiated a program called CarePass which features free prescription delivery with a $5/month delivery charge.
So if at the end of the day, you aren’t feeling like running to the grocery store for a few items, relax and take advantage of the options that we have right here in our community for pickup and/or delivery to your home.
