Pre-Jazz era saxophone music!
For those folks, both young and old, who might have a hankering for pre-jazz era saxophone music, then we have an exciting performance by the talented students from the University of Illinois sax studio that will take place at the Urbana Free Library. This not-your-mama’s tea-party concert highlights the rhythms and sounds of today’s up-and-coming saxophonists combined with the musical styles of early vaudeville artists like Rudy Wiedoeft, Wilbur C. Sweatman, Wheeler Wadsworth, the Brown Brothers, and the Five Spillers. It’s music to get your toes tapping and feet dancing as you join us with our Saxarella roundup. After the concert, check out the Sousa Archives and the KCPA Global Arts Performance Initiative’s International Jazz Day Film Screening, “The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit” at the Spurlock Museum. For further information about either event, call 217-333-4577 or email schwrtzs@illinois.edu. UFLive! concerts are made possible by the generous support of The Urbana Free Library Foundation.
The Library is committed to making programs accessible for all. If you need an accommodation to attend a program, please let the Library know at least two weeks in advance. To request an accommodation, contact the Programming and Outreach Manager via email at programming@urbanafree.org or via phone at 217-367-4057.
