Join the Land Conservation Foundation to celebrate the Sangamon River’s coolest creature at their seventh annual Mudpuppy Festival at the Monarch Events Center, 212 S. Independence Street, Monticello. The city of Monticello has declared February 1 to be the official Mudpuppy Day!

This family event features crafts, games, face painters, and a “fishing” booth for prizes! Past Festivals were a huge success with over 250 people attending, including over 75 children of all ages.  It also provides the opportunity to learn (in a fun way) about the Sangamon River and its wildlife, including mussels, birds, pollinators, and the state threatened mudpuppy, an aquatic salamander – and more.

Local businesses and individuals sponsor this Festival. Food will be available for purchase.

There is no charge for the Mudpuppy Festival but a donation of $5 per person or $10 per family is suggested.

For more information, go to LCFs website: landconservationfoundation.org or call Executive Director Deanna Glosser, 217-725-5886.

Please remember that events may be canceled or rescheduled last minute due to unpredictable weather or other factors. We encourage you to reach out to event organizers before heading out to an event to verify it is still happening.
