Dads ride the weekend train free when accompanied by their children! Take Dad on a fun weekend train ride with the family.
You may board the train at the Nelson Crossing Depot (the main Museum site) or at the Wabash Depot in downtown Monticello. The train ride lasts approximately one hour. Passengers may also choose to lay over at either depot to view displays and catch a later train back. You can walk through the display cars and view many pieces of rolling stock, as well as visit the Museum’s gift shop. At the Wabash Depot, you can walk to many shops and restaurants around Monticello’s Courthouse Square.
Fares
Fares are sold as round trips.
Adults: $15.00
Seniors (62 and older): $12.00
Children (2 through 12): $8.00
Children (under 2): Free (with adult fare)
Cab Rides
Diesel cab rides are available on most trips on a first-come, first-serve basis for a $20 surcharge above the normal adult fare. Cab rides are not available on steam or special event weekends. A maximum of two cab riders can be accommodated per trip.
Fathers ride FREE with a paid child fare. Ticket includes round trip train ride of approximately 1 hour duration and seven miles in length.

Guests may board train either at main Museum site (Nelson Crossing) shown on map, or at the Museum’s Wabash Depot located in downtown Monticello.
In addition to enjoying the train ride, guests are encouraged to visit the exhibit cars located adjacent to the Nelson Crossing depot, and are welcome to explore the Museum grounds and shop complex nearby.
Tickets may be used on any one train trip on date for which issued.
Trains leave the main Museum site at Nelson Crossing at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m.
Trains leave the Wabash Depot in downtown Monticello at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Note that there is NO return trip to the Wabash Depot following the 2:30 p.m. departure.
