The Champaign Fire Department is inviting the community to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week (October 4–10, 2026) by attending two upcoming community open houses. This year’s national campaign theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” highlights simple habits families can adopt to safely charge and manage lithium-ion battery-powered devices like smartphones, laptops, and e-bikes.
The open houses give residents of all ages a chance to tour neighborhood fire stations, explore emergency vehicles, ask questions, and learn home safety skills directly from local firefighters.
The two community open houses will take place on the following dates:
• Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 2-4:00 p.m.
Fire Station 6
3911 W. Windsor Road, Champaign
• Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 2-4:00 p.m.
Fire Station 5
1810 N. Mattis Avenue, Champaign
Both events are free to the public and will feature educational activities, fire engine displays, and safety materials for children and adults.
Please remember that events may be canceled or rescheduled last minute due to unpredictable weather or other factors. We encourage you to reach out to event organizers before heading out to an event to verify it is still happening.
