Carle Health: How to Find a Provider

January 6, 2026 By From The Editors

Perhaps your doctor has moved to another state. Maybe she’s retiring. Or it could be that you just aren’t satisfied with the care you’re getting from your current provider.

In any case, you’re in the market for a new primary care physician at Carle Health. Where do you start?

First, some definitions. Primary care offers you a consistent point of entry into the Carle Health system, and a healthcare home that you can always turn to. Get to know Carle’s locations, services and look through its primary care provider database to help you choose the right primary care service for you.

In primary care, Carle treats a wide range of medical conditions and injuries for patients of all ages. With a care team dedicated to your specific needs, you can be confident that your health is being overseen by a team of highly trained individuals, who will work their hardest to keep you healthy.

If your health needs require a different type of treatment of a more specialized approach, your care team will be there to get you the care you need by coordinating with Carle Health specialty departments.

Next, some general tips:

  • Not all physicians accept all insurances, so doing your own research is a must.
  • Some of the most popular physicians in our area may have a full practice and therefore might not be accepting new patients. This status may change; another question for you to research.
  • The most common degree and area of specialty are MDs in Internal Medicine (adults) or Family Medicine (all ages), but note that there are a few doctors of osteopathy (DO) as well as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Want to do an informational interview with a provider? Just call their office to see it it’s possible to set one up.

The most helpful place to kickstart your search is Carle’s “Find a doctor” page. You can search for a provider by name, by facility or by specialty.

Another important option: If you’re in the market for a primary care provider, call (866) 536-0617 for help, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you’re unwell and not sure which way to turn first, check out Carle’s “Get Care” page. You can also call Carle’s CARE line at (217) 326-CARE to talk to a person who can give you recommendations on the most efficient place to find support based on your health needs.
