Champaign Park District’s Prairie Farm: From a Chambana Kid’s Perspective

May 27, 2025 By From The Editors

By Eden Cook, third grader, South Side Elementary School

One of the very best activities in Champaign is open!

Prairie Farm is great for families with kids. Kids can pet animals and learn about them. New this year, you can pet the bunnies. There are also activities like pretending to braid a horse’s tail and lassoing a bull. There is also a petting zoo where you can pet goats, donkeys, and mini horses.

Prairie Farm has summer camps where you can sign up your kid for a week to learn about any animal. They also do fun events like goat yoga and movie nights.

It’s my favorite place in Champaign. I love how funny the goats are when they slide down their play structure. But if you want to go pet the bunnies and goats you have to wear closed toed shoes. NO CROCS! You have to follow simple rules to keep the animals safe. It’s right by Sholem Pool so you can even go swimming right after you visit the animals. You can also bring your lunch and eat there. Go there with your family!
