Families can choose from many events and activities happening this weekend in Champaign-Urbana
Get ready because there are a number of options waiting for you this weekend in Champaign-Urbana when it comes to family fun! There are crafty things, sporty events, musical happenings and all kinds of STEM-related fun, too! Ready for more good news? Much of it is FREE! But you do want to plan ahead because there are some “registration required” events in this category of free family fun this weekend. We are also going to include some bonus events on Monday, since it is Presidents’ Day! And be sure to check out what is open and what is closed on Monday.

Imagine stepping back in time and experiencing African American history through the Reconstruction era, the Great Migration, and the Civil Rights movement right here in the community. Spanning more than 170 years, the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail invites you to dive into incredible stories of resilience, creativity, and progress that have shaped the heart of our area.
Community Bus Tours
Immerse yourself in the vibrant stories and places that celebrate African American heritage in Champaign-Urbana. From cultural landmarks to inspiring individuals, the tour shines a light on the legacy that’s shaped our community. On Monday, February 17, the Trail will offer its first guided community bus tour—and you can be part of it!

The tour begins and ends at Douglass Park and Center
Cost – $10 per adult, $5 per child (aged 17 and below)

Due to sensitive content, the recommended age is 7. All proceeds are reinvested in future programming for the Trail.
