The postponed 5K race that was supposed to be part of Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend on April 26 has been moved to 7 p.m. on June 7.
The race was postponed due to pro-Palestinian protests on the UI campus, which forced area police to re-deploy resources away from the race.
Race organizers have created a new route that will end on Kirby Avenue outside Memorial Stadium. The postrace party will take place on Kirby, just west of the finish line, and feature a live band and the Riggs Beer Garden.
Those runners who kept their 5K bib in April may use it next month. Those who discarded their bib can request a replacement. Any registrant who cannot participant on June 7 has the option of utilizing virtual racing or deferring to 2025.
UPDATED on May 16: Organizers have announced that a limited number of entries are available, as up to 500 additional walkers and runners will be welcomed. To register, visit IllinoisMarathon.com and click the “Register for Rescheduled 5k” button. Registration is first-come, first-served.
