Pet owners in Champaign County have a new opportunity to connect when it comes to rehoming a pet
The choice to surrender (or welcome) a pet is never a quick one, but in the event you are looking to do either, you may wish to learn about the Champaign County Humane Society’s new online database
The Champaign County Humane Society has announced a new local service to rehome pets directly from one home to another, bypassing the stressful experience of surrendering your pet to a shelter. The choice to rehome a pet is not a quick or easy one, so utilizing Home To Home may just make the experience as smooth as possible for all involved.
Home To Home exists so that pet owners may place their pet in a new home without ever entering a shelter. This is a free service for pet owners in the Champaign-Urbana community, so no fees will be collected during the process.
If you have a pet that may need a new home due to a death, a move, changed circumstances or other life event, simply sign up to create an account. Likewise, if you are interested in welcoming a new pet to your home, either temporarily as a foster or permanently, you may create an account, too.
The Champaign County Humane Society receives notification when a pet is added, and it approves or denies that request within 72 hours. All subsequent communication with interested parties, meetings, and the adoption are handled by the person looking to rehome their pet.

If you are willing to open your home temporarily to pets to allow them to bypass the shelter, you can select those options when you sign up. You can even check a box to receive alerts when pets are in need of emergency fostering.
As of the writing of this article, 24 pets were listed as available on the Home To Home website. Of these, the majority are dogs and a few cats are listed, too. Home To Home was announced on Jan. 31 by the Champaign County Humane Society.

Home To Home is the latest extension of its services to the Champaign-Urbana community in support of this important mission.
