Pour Bros. Presents Market Street Beer Fest: Market Street will be taken over from noon-8 p.m. on June 3 by beer tents featuring 20 different breweries and a food truck. Music will be featured on the patio. More details here.
History Talk — 100 Years of Hillel: From 7-8:30 p.m. on June 15, join the Champaign County History Museum and Illini Hillel as Erez Cohen, executive director of Hillel at the University of Illinois — the first Hillel in the world — walks through 100 years of the history of Hillel through the experiences of its (Jewish and non-Jewish) founders, students and community members. The Dollhouse Presents: An Evening with Cameron McGill: McGill, a poet and songwriter from Champaign, will appear for two nights (June 16-17) at the new event space at the Fire Doll Studio in downtown Champaign. Read more about McGill and this intimate setting here.
Karaoke at The Axe Bar: Every Tuesday from 8 p.m. to midnight in downtown Champaign you can show why you deserve to be the next winner of The Voice. Afterward, you can practice throwing an axe at the people who booed you — just kidding! Details here.
Visit the restaurants you usually ignore: While the students are gone for the summer try out one of our favorite restaurants. This is the time of year for locals to support campus town businesses (and to avoid the campus crowds!)
75-mile Trail Challenge: The Champaign County Forest Preserve District’s 75-mile Trail Challenge runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Participants have that time to acquire 75 miles through the preserves in any combination of walking, running and biking. Those who want to “up” their challenge can also use rollerblades, roller skates or kayak/canoe. Those who complete the challenge will receive commemorative swag with the 75th anniversary logo.
Camp Lost Garden at Allerton Park: The weekend of June 24-25 offers you a chance to become a kid again at Allerton Park in Monticello. Campers will enjoy classic camp activities like arts and crafts, group games, campfires — yes, including s’mores and stories — nature hikes and more.
