Chophouse on Main nears official opening in Mahomet
Mahomet Music Festival-goers had the chance to get a taste (literally) of what is to come when Chophouse on Main opens in the former restaurant space known as JT Walker’s
As the newest restaurant to the Champaign County area gets closer to its official grand opening, Chophouse on Main recently invited the public inside with a limited menu so visitors could check out what is coming soon.
Chophouse on Main is a new venture from the owners of The Ribeye, a name familiar to Champaign-Urbana residents. They have settled into the space in Mahomet formerly known as JT Walker’s. Not to be confusing, but JT Walker’s has eventual plans to serve food at the taproom (that already serves drinks) directly across the street from Chophouse on Main, so you may still see that name on social media and with a similar address.
All that said, stepping into Chophouse on Main had a both familiar and fresh feeling when we visited.
The entrance at 401 E. Main leads into the main floor dining experience. The restaurant will have, as described on its website, “two levels of high-quality dining, wine and cocktails.” The main floor will have a more formal experience (and a pricier menu of offerings) and the upstairs/rooftop experience will be more casual. Request where you’d like to be seated when you arrive.
Heading upstairs, you can choose to sit inside in the more casual bar area full of TVs showing different sports or head outside to the rooftop. While many pleasing decor updates have been made to the interior of the restaurant, we were most excited to step out onto the rooftop and enjoy a similar experience to the one that has been so missed since JT’s closed its doors.
Chophouse on Main is sure to quickly become a favorite among not just Mahomet residents but people from all over Champaign-Urbana looking for a great atmosphere to enjoy a good meal. If the food is anything comparable to what we love at The Ribeye, that draw coupled with the vibe of Chophouse on Main is going to deliver time and time again when it officially opens (hopefully later this fall).
