Champaign-Urbana Weekend Planner - Sending Out Summer

Almost time to head back to school in Champaign-Urbana but that doesn’t mean the fun is over for the season

 

Families can choose from a myriad of events and activities this week in Champaign-Urbana

 

Can you hear the school bells beginning to ring? They’re going to start next week… ready or not, here we come. It will feel like summer in Champaign-Urbana for quite a bit longer but if you are wanting to make the most of the final weekend of summer break, there are lots of things happening. Fairs you can head to, large events at parks, concerts and more, just to name a few. Keep scrolling, because there are fireworks and more fun right around the corner!

Looking for free family fun? You won’t want to miss the Read-a-palooza! Summer Reading Finale, on Sunday, August 14, from 12 to 3 p.m., at the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St. Enjoy an all-ages community celebration with live music, bubbles galore, and free icy treats. Performances include Wildwood String Band (12–1 p.m.), Kittens Incorporated (1–3 p.m.), a roving magician, and stilt walker! You can also pick up your end-of-summer reading prizes.

University of Illinois, Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism Lab

They are currently recruiting participants for their PAID study (up to $40 per person). They are looking for English-speaking kids who go to dual immersion schools (schools that teach in both English and Spanish) or Spanish-speaking kids who go to regular schools (schools that teach in English only). Parents of 8-11 year old children whose kids participate also qualify to participate in our study. If you and your child(ren) qualify, please reach out via email, text, or WhatsApp! Study sessions are virtual.
