Marble Slab ice cream’s Savoy location will not renew its lease when it expires later this summer, the owners announced on Sunday.
The Marble Slab management made the announcement in a Facebook post. The company says that the store’s lease ends in September, and the business will likely close in mid-August, but they did not give a specific date.
The Facebook post (see below) encouraged Marble Slab customers to make plans to visit in the next few months (prime ice cream season) and to located any outstanding gift cards so that they can get used.
“We have so enjoyed being a part of this community over the last 14+ years! Savoy has been a great place for our small business and is such a wonderful place to live and work,” the Facebook post reads.
The business is located in the Schnuck’s shopping center, and is right next to Goodwill.
Marble Slab Creamery in Savoy has been owned by the Henderson family since opening in 2007. The business was well regarded for its generosity in the community, and was a frequent site for school fundraisers and blood drives.
Marble Slab Creamery is part of a franchise headquartered in Atlanta. The nearest Marble Slab location is in the St. Louis area.
The Facebook post indicated that a sale of the business isn’t outside of the realm of possibility. (One other local franchise, Rosati’s Pizza, closed its Urbana campus location in October; a sale was recently announced and the business plans to re-open.)
Marble Slab uses a frozen granite slab to blend mix-in toppings into various ice cream flavors. It also offers shakes and ice cream cakes.
