Sholem Aquatic Center and Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center are moving forward with selling season passes for 2021
It’s no secret — when we look back on last summer, one of the things we missed the most was time in the sun with our families at area pools. A staple summer experience in Champaign-Urbana, last year our two largest outdoor aquatic centers were closed due to COVID-19. This year brings a renewed sense of hope and our local park districts are just as optimistic as we are that this summer will be a drastic improvement over the circumstances of last. Enter: season pool pass sales.

Let’s cover what you need to know about the summer pool plans for the Champaign Park District and the Urbana Park District.
Sholem Aquatic Center Pool Pass Sale
The Champaign Park District will begin selling season pool passes to Sholem Aquatic Center on March 1 and sale prices will continue through April 30. (Check out page 38 of their program guide.) As in years past, a pool pass gets you admission to public swim hours, lap swim, the river run/walk, and Tiny Tots swim time for the youngest swimmers. Season pool pass holders get admission beginning at noon on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends (an hour earlier than the public, typically).
For a Champaign or Urbana resident family of four, you can get a pool pass for $195 during the early bird sale. That jumps up to $223 after April 30. Remember that all swimmers ages 4 and up need a pool pass, but children three and younger are admitted for FREE.
As another option, if you have small children (3 and under only) and just one parent wants a season pass to take advantage of Tiny Tots swim time, you can get an individual pass for $86 as a C-U resident (and that increases to $98 after the sale).
Note that all pool passes are 50 percent off on or after July 15, 2021 (the summer halfway point, essentially). If you’re not sure about visiting the pool right out of the gates this summer and want to see how things roll a bit, this may be a good option for you.
Finally, there’s a note in that program guide about checking back in February for a “Cyber Monday” deal on pool passes. We will be sure to update this and let you know once we see that news posted.
What we’re looking forward to most at Sholem Aquatic Center in 2021
Gosh, can we just say everything? We miss this community staple so much! But if we had to pick two things it would be floating around the lazy river and bustling our kids over to the concession area to load them up on something that will keep them fueled to keep swimming all the way through dinner time.
March 1 also begins early party and rental reservations! We expect this to be HUGE in 2021. Whether you want to bring a group during public hours or rent the entire waterpark for your group after-hours, this is going to be a popular way to enjoy Sholem (minus the crowds) in 2021.

Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center Pool Pass Sale
Urbana Park District released its pool pass plans with the latest program guide, too. Their pool pass sale is already happening now! You can buy passes at Phillips Recreation Center or the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center. Buy a pool pass for Crystal Lake or scoop up a combo pass to cover UIAC and Crystal Lake during the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day).
Check out the aquatics section of the UPD program guide here. The sale goes through April 30, 2021.
For a Champaign or Urbana resident family of four, you can get a pool pass to Crystal Lake Aquatic Center for $187. Same rules apply here as at Sholem; all visitors ages 4 and up need a pass, and children 3 and under are free. We don’t know about specific programming happening at Crystal Lake in 2021 (i.e. tot swim for our youngest swimmers in the early mornings) but we will update this as more info becomes available.
What we’re looking forward to most at Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center in 2021
This is a two-part answer, and it depends on the age of the kids we’re planning to bring to the pool this summer. If we bring our younger kiddos, we can’t wait to sit in the partially submerged chairs surrounding the tree house and watching our littles climb up the structure and slide down the slide over and over and over. If it will be a pool trip with just the bigs, we can’t wait to park it over by the diving well and watch them scale that water climbing wall and ascend the slide stairs many, many times. Our bigs LOVE Crystal Lake as it definitely packs some of that “thrill” they’re looking for, and we can’t wait to give them something they can do all summer long.
Stay in the loop with all things Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center on the UPD website here; we know they will be updating the site soon.
Memorial Day weekend is less than four (!) months away and while that can feel like an eternity, especially after the year we’ve just had, we can’t help but start to get excited for how this summer will be. We’re so grateful our park districts are moving forward with plans for a summer pool season and can’t wait to (safely) splish splash all through summer in 2021!
