Hey Champaign-Urbana: Get your Trot on this Thanksgiving!
Not a runner? Not a problem when it comes to area “turkey trots” this Thanksgiving. In Champaign-Urbana and surrounding towns, these extra-fun events held around Thanksgiving called “turkey trots” are a great addition to your holiday festivities. With the addition of some virtual turkey trots this year, you can be active as a family on a late November morning right outside your front door.
While you may think they sound just like any other 5K run/walk, a turkey trot is sometimes FREE to enter, or has a suggested donation of a canned good in contrast to the standard registration fees required at other races (some of the trots listed below do have registration fees, as a heads-up).
Turkey trots are typically family friendly, too, so you can push a stroller or invite your older child to walk or run their first race to see how they like it. And remember, you can always walk the course if you’re not a runner, as there will be plenty of people walking in these events.
With an average of 3,000 calories consumed at the Thanksgiving meal alone (not including snacks before the big event), we don’t think anyone can argue that doing something active outside with your whole family is the perfect way to kick off a day of gratitude and togetherness.
Check out these turkey trot events happening in and around Champaign-Urbana this Thanksgiving and let us know which one YOUR family will be participating in!
