Sports opportunities for kids abound in Champaign-Urbana. If you’re looking for fun opportunities to encourage teamwork, physical activity, and social interaction for your child, we can help. Registration for youth sporting events is underway and teams are beginning to form. Check the opportunities listted below; the list will increase as the fall season gets closer.

I-Power offers classes in preschool gymnastics, school-age gymnastics, tumbling and ninja classes. I-Power also hosts birthday parties, Parent Night Out events, field trips and open gym.
Dates of Programming: Session 1 – Aug. 19-Oct. 26, Session 2 – Oct. 28-Jan. 11, Session 3 – Jan. 13-March 28, Session 4 – March 30-June 6, Session 5 – June 8-Aug. 15
Open House: There will be a fall kickoff event on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 6-8 p.m. Inquire with I-Power for fees to attend. Registration is ongoing and I-Power will prorate fees for any new students that join after the session’s initial start date.
Ages Served: 15 months — 18 years

Kids learn so much through sports, such as skills and positive attitudes they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. Enriching their personal development is the goal of the YMCA Youth Sports Series — a unique, coed sports program that combines the YMCA’s philosophy of fair play, teamwork, and inclusiveness with skill development.
Dates of Programming: Fall Flag Football: kindergarten through 8th grade (Saturdays, Sept. 7 – Oct. 19)
Fall Basketball: kindergarten through 6th grade (Saturdays, Oct. 26 – Dec. 14)
Open House: Session I: Member registration begins Aug. 5; guest member registration begins Aug. 12. Session II: Member registration begins Sept. 30, guest member registration begins Oct. 7
Ages Served: 6 months — 16 years
Location: 2501 Fields South Dr., Champaign
The HEAT is a year-round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of the team is to provide every athlete an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competition.
Dates of Programming: Short Course Swim Season August – March; Long Course Season April – July
Ages Served: 3 (sparks – pre swim team) and up
Open House: Group placement swims will be held on Aug. 26 from 4:15-6 p.m. Returning swimmers will be placed on Aug. 27 from 4:15-6 p.m.
Location: Practices are primarily held at the Stephens Family YMCA; however, some practices are held at Centennial High School
