Have unwanted and/or unused medication around the house? Here are ways to dispose of it safely:
OSF HealthCare has installed secure disposal boxes at its locations in Urbana and Danville. Prescription and over-the-counter medications are accepted. The boxes are available in the main lobby and operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Urbana and 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Danville. NOT accepted: needles; liquids including lotions and ointments; inhalers; aerosol cans; IV bags/tubes; thermometers.
Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 27, 2018. From 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., many Central Illinois area locations will accept your unused medication.
Search for local drop-off points on the DEA’s National Take Back Initiative website. Click on “Locate a collection site near you” and enter your zip code to see drop-off locations within a designated mile radius. As of Aug. 21, 2018, there are three sites within a 35-mile radius of C-U: Hudson Drug Shop in Paxton; Bond Drug Company in Champaign (1713 W. Springfield Ave.); and OSF Healthcare in Urbana (1400 W. Park St.).
The Food and Drug Administration offers guidelines on how to dispose of unwanted medicines at your home.
