Are you a stay at home dad, a work at home dad, an involved dad? No matter the “label” or “status,” the fact of the matter is that parenting “resources” for dads differ greatly than for moms. Our readers helped us put together a list of groups and ideas for Champaign-Urbana area dads to get connected and networked with each other. What we found is that there are more resources than imagined – and parenting groups in the Champaign-Urbana area are becoming more inclusive than ever (although there are always, always exceptions). Please send us more ideas on this topic for further exploration by emailing editor@chambanamoms.com.
(Please note these ideas were the result of a Facebook poll and placement here should not be considered as a recommendation or endorsement by chambanamoms.com, its staff, or parent company.)
Without further ado, here are resources and ideas our readers pulled together as of March 2016:
- “There is an informal group for involved dads, and several SAHDs participate. Any involved dad is welcome to join and network about parenting resources: https://www.facebook.com/groups/illinidadsgroup/“
- “We welcome dads at CU New Parents Group! Check us out on Facebook or come to playgroup on Tuesday mornings!! (If kids are 0-3)”
- “Hike it Baby is all inclusive and we are really looking to get more Dad involvement. Not specific to stay at home dads but it is a great way to connect to other dads.”
- Mahomet Moms, Pops and Tots meets on 9:30-11 at Waterford at Bridle Brook on Fridays.
- “Sign your kid(s) up for a sport, there are always Dads at practices/games.”
- “My husband was a SAHD with our twins for three years when they were tiny. He had no problem meeting up with other dad’s when he went to the indoor play areas & parks. There were always other dad’s around.”
Reminder: if you know of something we should add to this list, send to editor@chambanamoms.com.
