UPDATE: As of May 2017, the Dairy Barn has added a drive-thru. Or, as they’re calling it, a “Moo-thru.” The new drive-thru will have a soft opening later in May, followed by a ribbon cutting and grand opening. The drive-thru will be located in the building adjacent to the Dairy Barn on the west side.
What: Sidney Dairy Barn
Where: 311 W. Main Street, Sidney

Description: A good, old-fashioned ice-cream stand in the small town of Sidney.
Good For: Everyone!
Our Take: The Sidney Dairy Barn is exactly what you think it is going to be, when it rises up off the prairie almost out of nowhere — a good, old-fashioned place to get a cold cone on a hot summer day or evening. The flavors vary, but you can always count on chocolate and vanilla, and a tantalizing menu of “tornadoes,” or combinations of candy, sauces and ice cream that make some pretty incredible treats. Be sure to check the website for the featured flavor of the day!
It’s a short jaunt to Sidney from Urbana but it will take a wee bit longer to get there from Champaign. The good news is that the drive is a pretty one, with lots to see for the little ones, from farms to tractors to the occasional animal. Once you’re there you can eat your ice cream cone or sundae at an outdoor picnic table (no indoor seating) and then the kids can play tag in a grassy area nearby. One word of warning: There is no public restroom, so be sure to go potty before you leave home!
Special Note: You can get a taste of the Sidney Dairy Barn at the Market at the Square, from the Moo Mobile!
