Enjoy music and treats as you stroll the grounds near Japan House!
In the spirit of Shinrin Yoku, or “forest bathing”, Japan House is hosting a variety of musical performances throughout the grounds near and around Japan House for anyone to freely come and enjoy. Specific locations will not be detailed, but rather guests are encouraged to safely and respectfully explore the beautiful gardens while listening.
This month’s musical guest is Chicago-based DJ Van Paugam. Van will be playing vintage Japanese 70s and 80s vinyl records in the style of City Pop: a musical genre born in Japan and tied to the economic miracle that caused a boom in almost every sector of the country’s industries. The style, popularized online around 2016, borrows from many western musical genres such as lounge, pop, disco, funk, jazz, and even yacht rock, to produce a fusion of eastern and western musical production techniques that at once is nostalgic and new sounding for many younger fans.
Japan House’s Matcha Cafe will be available starting at 4pm featuring beverages such as hot and cold matcha, and house-made sweets. Savory options will be provided by Michael’s Catering . Quantities are limited on all items and cannot be guaranteed. Come early for the best selection. Full menu and pre-order options will be released soon.
Music starts at 4:30. End times will vary by vendor quantities and performer’s playlist (by 6pm).
PLEASE NOTE: Japan House will not be open to the public, this includes restrooms.
