Recovery Happens is inviting the entire Champaign-Urbana community to celebrate hope, connection, and the power of recovery at its first-ever Recovery Happens Summer Jam: Music, Hope & Community, a free outdoor concert on Saturday, August 15, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jean Driscoll Pavilion in Ambucs Park, Urbana.
The event will feature live performances by Afro D and the Global Sound Waves and The Voodoo Exiles, local food trucks, community fellowship, and information about recovery resources available throughout Champaign County. Admission is free, and donations will be welcomed but are entirely optional.
“Too often, conversations about addiction focus only on the struggle,” said John Schumacher, board member of Recovery Happens. “This event celebrates something equally important—the thousands of people in our community who are living lives of recovery, rebuilding families, strengthening neighborhoods, and proving every day that recovery happens.”
Recovery Happens provides safe, structured recovery housing that helps individuals build stable, healthy, and productive lives. The Summer Jam is designed primarily to increase awareness of recovery and reduce the stigma that too often surrounds substance use disorders.
The evening’s schedule includes:
●4:00 p.m. – Event opens; food trucks begin serving
●5:00 p.m. – Afro D and the Global Sound Waves
●6:15 p.m. – Welcome, community remarks, and prize drawings
●6:45 p.m. – The Voodoo Exiles
●8:00 p.m. – Event concludes
Families, friends, neighbors, and supporters are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of music in one of Urbana’s most beautiful parks.
Media representatives are warmly invited to attend, interview organizers, musicians, and individuals willing to share how recovery has transformed their lives.
