Learn how to write a short poem in the form of a quatrain!

In this workshop, local poet Jim O’Brien will show you how to create quatrains, 4-line rhyming poems, that express your thoughts and feelings. Participants will look for inspiration in the nature of Crestview Park.  No prior experience writing poetry is necessary!

Jim O’Brien’s poems have appeared, sometimes under his pen name of James Escher, in Images, Pitkin Review, Pegasus, Pilcrow & Dagger, The Tishman Review, and in the anthology On Our Own, Widowhood for Smarties by Silver Boomer Books. He is a member of the CUPoetry Group in Champaign-Urbana, IL, and co-curator of the weekly CU Haiku feature in The News-Gazette.

Want to share your poem with everyone in Urbana? Submit it to the Library’s Poems Across Urbana project!  The project will print short – 2-4 lines – original poems on signs to be displayed throughout Urbana in August and September.  If your poem is chosen, you’ll receive a sign with your poem printed on it for display.

Paid for in part by the City of Urbana Arts and Culture Grant.

The Library is committed to making programs accessible for all. If you need an accommodation to attend a program, please let the Library know at least two weeks in advance. To request an accommodation, contact the Programming and Outreach Manager via email at programming@urbanafree.org or via phone at 217-367-4057.
