There is a unique perspective that is gained through storytelling. This is an opportunity to hear each other’s stories about migration and gain a fresh perspective on the real life joys and struggles that come with.
There are multiple ways you can participate in this event.
Option 1: Share your own or a loved one’s migration story.
Option 2: Read a book on a migration story. Some book options include: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok, The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez, How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez, and Americanah by Chimamanda Adiche. I will be reading The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez, if you would like to read-along with me!
This event is part of Welcoming Week 2020. Welcoming Week is a global celebration that that brings together immigrants and U.S.-born community members to get to know one another and build community. Events will take place in Champaign County from Saturday, September 12 through Sunday, September 20.
