Come out for an insightful evening and explore the important topic of how to foster student growth through parental support.

Academy High is excited to announce the return of their annual community event, Making the Most of High School, now with a fresh focus on nurturing student growth, independence, and well-being throughout their educational journey.

This event is specifically designed for parents and caregivers with middle and high school students (grades 7-10), whether they are preparing to navigate high school or already immersed in the journey.

This year, they are honored to welcome two distinguished speakers: Tony Nichols, from Hope Centered Wellness Group LLC in Savoy and Lisa Micele, College Counselor to Academy High and Uni High. Together, they will explore essential topics that help families support their adolescents in preparing for and making the most of high school:

  • Parenting Models for Adolescent Growth: Tony will discuss the evolving role of parents during the high school years, highlighting strategies such as being “hummingbird parents” who offer guidance while fostering independence, versus “snowplow parents” who remove obstacles.

  • Developing Self-Advocacy Skills: Encouraging students to take ownership of their educational journey and make choices that align with their interests and goals.

  • Supporting Unique Student Paths: Encouraging students to explore varied interests while remaining informed of options available to them during and after high school.

Lisa Micele will connect college readiness and holistic admissions to these concepts – providing practical tips on how this developmental growth connects with high school and college planning goals and authentic student applications.

Attendees who RSVP will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance, ensuring that our experts can address the topics most relevant to you.
