Chicago-based trumpeter Emily Kuhn brings her quintet to Krannert Center Uncorked, as part of the 2025 CU Jazz Festival. Originally from Charlottesville, VA, Emily has made a name for herself as an active bandleader, sidewoman, composer, and educator since moving to Chicago in 2016. Emily has brought her original music to festivals including Stanford Jazz Festival, Hey Nonny’s Women’s Jazz Festival, Festival of New Trumpet Music, the MCA’s Tuesdays on the Terrace, and the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series.
Her quintet will be performing new original compositions and music from Kuhn’s recent release, “Ghosts of Us.” The album draws inspiration from the natural world, science fiction, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
