Dr. Marlee Bunch Returns to Champaign for Two Conversations on Culturally Responsive Classrooms
Champaign, IL – Educators, advocates, and community members have a unique opportunity to engage with Dr. Marlee Bunch, a leading voice in culturally responsive teaching, in two must-attend conversations on Wednesday, November 6. Attendees will walk away with actionable insights from Dr. Bunch’s groundbreaking book “The Magnitude of Us An Educator’s Guide to Creating Culturally Responsive Classrooms.” The new book provides practical strategies for creating more equitable and inclusive classrooms, and a deeper understanding of how to advocate for educational reform. Participants will also have the chance to connect with Dr. Bunch and award-winning NPR journalist Kennedy Vincent, gaining expert perspectives on reshaping the future of education.
Dr. Bunch will be in conversation with award-winning NPR journalist Kennedy Vincent at the Illini Union Bookstore on Wednesday, November 6, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Attendees will explore the themes in “The Magnitude of Us,” a guide aimed at helping educators create classrooms that are more inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive. Later that evening, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Dr. Bunch will host a second conversation with Vincent at The Literary, a local bookstore in downtown Champaign.
Dr. Bunch’s experience spans both secondary and post-secondary education, allowing her to develop curriculum, mentor educators, and create impactful workshops centered on advocacy for equity and justice. Her work disrupts educational inequities and fosters reform by highlighting the power of storytelling and history. Dr. Bunch is the founder of the un/HUSH teaching framework, which focuses on amplifying the oral histories of Black female educators. Her research has paved the way for her upcoming books, “The Magnitude of Us” (Teachers College Press, 2024) and “Unlearning the Hush: Oral Histories of Black Female Educators” (University of Illinois Press, 2025).
The Illini Union Bookstore event is free, but registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to engage in this dynamic conversation with Dr. Bunch and Kennedy Vincent and gain insights into the importance of culturally responsive education.
