The Taiwanese American Students Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is excited to announce the revival of the Illinois Cultural Adopted Students Program (ICASP) 2023!
What is ICASP and its goal?
The Illinois Cultural Adopted Students Program is an event welcoming Asian adoptee families to deepen their connections to Asian culture and identity. Their commitment is to demonstrate community service, leadership and action for the Asian adoptee community at UIUC and in the Urbana-Champaign area. They raise awareness about cultural heritage, understanding ethnic identity and developing youth leadership.
What does the event entail?
ICASP is completely free and will include activities for both parents and kids! Lunch is also included!
ICASP is tailored towards elementary schoolers but all kids are welcome! Some of the activities they will be doing include making dumplings and traditional sweet rice balls, also known as tang yuan! They will also be doing arts and crafts, watching educational videos on culture, and playing games together!
As for the parents, they have prepared a separate workshop for them to attend during childrens’ activities. This workshop is more discussion-based and will include opportunities to talk with keynote speakers they have invited!
When and where will it be?
This year ICASP 2023 will be on March 25th, 2023 from 11am – 3pm at the Asian American Cultural Center, located at 1210 W Nevada St, Urbana, IL 61801. Parking is available!
