Get an in-depth look at the design and horticulture of Allerton’s Formal Gardens during Horticulture Tours on Sundays, April 19, May 31 and June 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. Meet at the Greenhouse Patio.
Master Gardener and dedicated Allerton volunteer Ruth Mitchell will share ornamental planting information and interesting tidbits about Allerton’s 14 formal gardens, created by Robert Allerton between 1899 and 1946. Since the donation of the property to the University of Illinois in 1946, the gardens have been lovingly cared for by Park staff. Come see for yourself at this tour that will be both beautiful and informative.
