After nearly a year of community collaboration, the “Harmony Through Beads” project will unveil its completed 5′ × 5′ beaded mural at a special celebration event on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana.
Since July 2024, community members from across Champaign-Urbana and beyond have contributed their creativity to this collaborative artwork by creating individual beaded hexagons, each representing personal stories and intentions. The completed mural stands as a testament to Urbana’s creative spirit and global connections.
“This project has brought together people from all walks of life, creating connections through the meditative practice of beadwork,” says Vivianne, project organizer. “The unveiling celebration is not just about seeing the finished artwork—it’s about honoring the community that made it possible.”

This family-friendly event represents the culmination of numerous pop-up workshops, sponsors and community gatherings held throughout Champaign-Urbana since summer 2024.
