Anita Purves Nature Center
There has been a recent increase in the number and toxicity of harmful algal blooms (HABs) resulting in closure of recreational areas (e.g., Crystal Lake), disruption of water supplies (e.g., Toledo, Ohio), and adverse health effects in people and animals. HABs occur naturally, but climate change and human disturbance of ecosystems play a role. Join Master Naturalist and University of Illinois Professor Emerita, Wanda Haschek-Hock, to learn about freshwater HABs: their occurrence, impact, and potential health effects. This program is in partnership with the East Central Illinois Master Naturalists. Register early, as space is limited. Ages 15 and up. Registration is required!
Fees start at $3/ person.
