At the February meeting, member Erik Johnson will discuss an important archeological find that gives insight into the astronomical observations that were made 3,600 years ago. In 1999, some German treasure hunters located this bronze disc, and it was soon clear that this 4½ pound object dated from the bronze age. With an image of the moon and 32 stars, it seems to have been used for astronomical purposes. It is now part of the permanent collection of the State Museum of Prehistory of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany.
