City Parking Lot
The Champaign Fire Department is excited to announce the celebration of our 150th Anniversary. On July 8th, 1865, the city council signed a resolution to form a fire department to protect this rapidly growing community. A lot has changed over time, but many traditions of the fire service still live on today.
To mark this historic occasion we will be hosting a fire apparatus parade and firefighter muster on Sunday, July 19th in Downtown Champaign. The parade will start with a caravan of fire apparatus traveling from campus, through Champaign, and meeting with the remaining parade entries at Central High School. From Central High School we will travel east on Church St. past the Fire & Police Memorial, through downtown past the Champaign City Building and terminating at the muster location at Washington & Walnut St. The parade will begin at 12 noon and the muster will run from 1 until 5pm. This will be an exciting event for children and adult of all ages. We invite your family to come help us celebrate!
As a special attraction, Champaign’s first motorized fire engine has been located in Ontario, Canada and will return to Champaign to celebrate our 150th Anniversary, as well as, the 100th Birthday of this classic fire fighting machine! There will be games for the kids, as well as games for the firefighters. Several food trucks will be present to provide a fun selection of food and drinks.
Save the date and come celebrate a historic firefighting occasion.
(P.S. There’s a good chance the kids could get wet!)
