The primary goal of the community track meets is to connect future Maroons, current Maroons, and alumni.  Additionally, the organizers want to introduce the sport of track and field to those unfamiliar with it and provide an opportunity for families to be active together.

Who can participate?

Anyone! They want anyone who wants to participate to join in. You don’t have to be a past, current, or future Central family to participate.  Whether you’re a first time runner, jumper, or thrower or a seasoned veteran they’re excited to have you join them.

What events can I do?

standing broad jump – stand at the edge of a sand pit and jump as far into it as you can

long jump – run down a runway towards the sand pit and jump as far as you can

softball throw – throw a softball as far as you can

shot put – throw a weighted ball (8.8lbs for all females and middle school boys, 12 for high school boys, 16lbs for adult men)

20m – ⅕ of the straightaway

60m hurdles – roughly half a straightaway with 6” rocket hurdles spaced evenly throughout

100m – the straightaway on the track

200m – one curve and one straightaway on the track

400m – one lap of the track

800m – two laps of the track

1600m – 4 laps of the track

4×100 – a team of 4 people runs 100m each to complete one lap around the track

Do I have to register in advance?

No, you may register the day of the event.

Are there age restrictions?

The toddler 20 and mini hurdles will be limited to the young ones and the shot put will only be available for middle schoolers and older.  A standing broad jump and softball throw will be an option for anyone (young or old) who doesn’t feel confident in the long jump or shot put. Otherwise, if you’re capable of covering the distance of the race all ages are welcome! It doesn’t matter if you toddle, waddle, limp, walk, or run they want you to join the fun!

Do I need experience?

The shot put is the only event that they would like participants to have experience for.  All the other events they can give you the information you need on site!

How much does it cost?

Entries are $1 per event and can be paid at the event.

How do I register?

Registration will be available the day of the event or you can register in advance here:

Will my races be timed?

They will hand time the races and make the results available shortly after the event.  Results from field events will also be posted.

Will races be seeded?

If you provide a seed time they will do their best to put you in a race that will be competitive.  Otherwise they will do their best to sort by age.  While they will have separate genders for results, in the interest of trying to be as efficient as possible, all events will be run coed.

Will there be awards?

Not this year.  They hope to add awards to the meet in future years but this year they won’t have awards.

Are there restrooms available?

Yes, they do have restrooms on site.

Will there be food?

They currently have no plans for food but this may change. But they’d be more than happy to have food vendors join!

Where does the money go?

While they want to make the event as affordable as possible they do want to use it to help raise a little money for the track and field programs as well.  The entry fee will go to the boys and girls track and field boosters.

Who will be officiating?

The Central track and field coaching staff, athletes, and alumni will officiate.

Are there any ways to help?

They would welcome volunteers to help time or run a field event. If you or someone you know is a food vendor and would like to set up shop they’d love to have you!  Additionally, financial donations are always appreciated!

Where can I get more information?

More information can be found on their facebook page or by emailing Guthrie Hood at hoodgu@u4sd.org
