Book Club: Tales of the Mediterranean

The book club, with an audiovisual component, will meet monthly on Feb. 4, Mar. 4, April 2, May 7, 2023 from 2-3:30pm at the Sattherhwaite Conference Room at the Urbana Public Library. It is free and open to the public, recommended age 15 and up. Snacks will be provided. It is led by Eva Kuras, a PhD student in Comparative & World Literature at the University of Illinois.

This group will make their way around the Mediterranean, starting in Istanbul with Orhan Pamuk’s My Name is Red, then move to Baghdad/Cairo with tales from 1001 Nights, and Mediterranean sea journeys in Boccaccio’s Decameron. They will finish with the great Persian love story, Vis and Ramin, which has connections to the European Tristan and Isolde legend.
