Kids aren’t the only ones who love summer. And there are so many fun, grown-up things to do in Champaign-Urbana in June, you’re going to need to get those babysitters booked ASAP!
Whether you’re looking for a date-night atmosphere or just a fun afternoon with friends, we’ve rounded up a list of the top places for adults to go in Champaign-Urbana and beyond this month.
40 North’s Friday Night Live: Every Friday in downtown Champaign. Sure, it’s family-friendly, which we LOVE, but sometimes you just want to soak up our great downtown Champaign vibe while having a leisurely meal at a “grown-up” meal time while listening to great music.
Comedy Night at Collective Pour: Laugh it up June 5 at Collective Pour in Champaign. The double headliner features Reena Calm and Winston Hodges. Tickets ($15) are limited!
13 Thursdays: Happens every Thursday — betcha couldn’t have figured that one out — in Campustown, and it’s a great way to enjoy the best of campus while the students are away (well, mostly). One of the best parts: Free movies on the Quad, starting at 9 p.m.
Visit the restaurants you usually ignore: Speaking of Campustown, while the students are gone for the summer try out one of our favorite restaurants. This is the time of year for locals to support campus town businesses (and to avoid the campus crowds!)
StreetFest: Features live local music in the streets of downtown Champaign along with local food and drinks available from your favorite downtown establishments. Held on June 11 (7 p.m.-midnight) at the corner of Neil and Main Street.
Lindy Hoppers at Hamilton Walker’s: On June 12, the Illini Swing Society will host swing dancing from 7-9 p.m. No cover charge.
Queertango at Lit: Queertango is about improvised movement in embraces without gender roles, and the June 5 program at The Literary in Champaign features a lecture, dance lesson and then dancing. Suggested donation is $20.
Boozy Book Club: Books and booze? Sounds like our kind of date. Visit The Literary on June 25 (6 p.m.) where you can discuss Dressed to Swill by Jennifer Croll and sample four cocktails from the book. Ticket purchase required, and it includes a copy of the book and four cocktails.
Hospice Hearts Adoption Event: The Blind Pig in Champaign is the spot to meet-and-greet some adoptable pets while enjoying a brew or two on June 11.
Pups n Pints: One day later, on June 12, you can enjoy more beer and more pets. The Champaign-Urbana Humane Society and Pour Bros. will host an event where you can bring your dog and hang out with friends.
