The Champaign-Urbana area has a variety of offerings for kids classes and teams in the fall

Activities that keep your kids active and engaged? Check. Activities that stretch your kids brain power? Check. Activities that your kids will be asking to go to? Check. We have the info on a variety of extra curricular activities that kids will enjoy all year long.

Registration for fall activities are up and running at many organizations, although some may not have information ready yet. Please note that all listings are paid sponsors of chambanamoms.

Thanks to Illini Tutoring for presenting this list of kids classes in Champaign-Urbana. Urbana Park District

The Urbana Park District has a plethora of options for youth in Champaign-Urbana across their many facilities. From swimming lessons and swim team to dance and theater, chess club to nature activities, you can find a number of options to choose from when you’re looking for activities for your children. They do offer extensive programming for preschoolers and have a number of options for teens, too.

I-Power School of Gymnastics

I-Power develops well-rounded children and young adults through gymnastics. I-Power strives to instill self-confidence, strength, responsibility and develop its students’ INDIVIDUAL potential. Programs include Preschool Gymnastics (beginning as early as 6 months) Preschool Educational Prep (Gym N Learn), Boys and Girls School-Age Gymnastics, Competitive Gymnastics, Ninja Classes, Special Events, Birthday Parties, Field Trips, Open Gyms, School Out Days and Summer Camps.

Soccer Planet

About Soccer Planet: Lil’ Kickers youth soccer classes allow children aged 18 months to 8 years to learn the sport while having fun with others. It is a developmental program aimed at helping kids excel on and off the field. Children engage with friendly, high-energy coaches who help develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

Additionally, Soccer Planet offers Drill & Play classes that focus on skill development and sportsmanship for children aged 7-14. Join them for soccer fun in a safe, rewarding environment! Classes meet weekly for 50 minutes per session.

How to Enroll: Visit their website to create an account which allows enrollment in the appropriate class. They offer a free 1-session trial for parents who want to see whether the class is the right fit. Visit the “Youth Programs” page on their website to view program schedules and sign up. They prorate upon enrollment and offer discounts to multi-child families.

About Not Your Typical Tutor: Empowering the Exceptional Child: They specialize in working with children on the autism spectrum, but they also have experience teaching kids with learning disabilities, ADHD, Down Syndrome, etc. They are available to help your child with academics, communication, personal care, behavior–whatever is needed.

Champaign County YMCA Heat Swim Team

The HEAT is a year-round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of the team is to provide every athlete an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competition.

Dates of Programming: Short Course Swim Season August – March; Long Course Season April – July

Ages Served: 3 (sparks – pre swim team) and up

Location: Practices are primarily held at the Stephens Family YMCA; however, some practices are held at Centennial High School

The Reading Group

About The Reading Group: They offer 10 sessions (one hour in length) for individuals with dyslexia or other learning challenges. They also offer gifted learning classes for students who may have challenges in math, science, reading or writing. They offer a basic reading program for pre-K students. All courses are taught by certified instructors with an additional 10 hours of training in Orton-Gillingham dyslexia training.

How to Enroll: Parents may call 217-351-9144 to register for the courses but will need to complete an intake process prior to any sessions. They can also email jjones@readinggroup.org or teaton@readinggroup.org for details related to cost, procedures and classes. They do offer scholarships but they are based on the national poverty levels and the number of individuals in the household established by Health and Human Services.
