Unseasonably warm temperatures, we will take it. Champaign-Urbana has a great deal of fall fun to be had, particularly outdoors, this weekend
It is a great opportunity to take a walk, enjoy nature, stomp in the leaves or just take in the colors when you have some family time in the next couple days
We weren’t quite expecting another run of 70 degree temperatures in Champaign-Urbana at this point in the fall but we know one thing… we are here for it! So it’s a fantastic weekend to go do all things fall as a family. With Halloween behind us, it’s a good moment to take a pause and make some memories together, particularly out at any one of the great places to experience nature near Champaign-Urbana.
Here are some ideas as to what you can do while you’re outdoors:
- Take a hike – our list comes with a handy legend (that has Central Illinois families in mind) for when you’re choosing a trail with a level of difficulty that will be right for your family, from very easy to navigate to quite the challenge
- Hit a walking trail – generally speaking, this gives you options right in Champaign-Urbana that don’t involve much of a drive and do not typically take you “out to the woods”, weaving through neighborhoods, parks and other nearby favorites
- Be spontaneous… head out to go camping – hey, if the weather is going to be this fantastic, it’s perfect roast hot dogs and s’mores over the fire weather this weekend. Not a fan of sleeping outdoors? You can still have a campfire-at-home kind of night and bundle up to look at the stars in your yard while having a campfire-inspired dessert.
- If you’re really in it to see some gorgeous fall colors, check out our fall foliage map. Many of the leaves are on the ground now, but stomping through the colors is *almost* as beautiful as gazing up at them. And probably a lot more fun for your kids, while you’re at it.
