Turns out, apples don’t mind COVID-19.
Champaign County staple Curtis Orchard, one of the popular apple-picking spots in the region, will open its 2020 season on July 20.
Curtis Orchard is far more than apples, of course. But the venue has made the appropriate changes to deal with the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus and maintain its ability to entertain folks of all ages.
Largely the same as previous years: U-pick apples, the gift store, baked goods and some activities (mini golf, the popular goats, and the ever-present kittens).
Altered somewhat: The Flying Monkey Cafe will open July 25 with the usual protocols in place (mask-wearing, frequent sanitizing, tables spaced 6 feet apart.)
Altered significantly: There will be no inflatable slide, jump pad or obstacle course “until we get the all-clear from the state,” Curtis Orchard’s Rachel Coventry said.
The orchard will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. The season runs through Dec. 23.
